Fun Historical Fiction to Read This Fall
Today we’re sharing some cozy historical fiction books to dive into this fall. Covering a wide span of time periods, you’ll find something for everyone on this list from a page-turning novel for mom to a sweet picture book collection for your youngest readers.
Ready? Let’s dive in!
FOR MOM // The Curious Inheritance of Blakely House by Joanna Davidson Politano

Set in 1901, this novel has some of my favorite ingredients- a spunky protagonist, a mysterious will, and an unexpected romance! Heart-warming and fun.
FOR TEENS // Salt: A Story of Friendship in a Time of War by Helen Frost
When it comes to historical fiction for kids, I’m always thrilled to find novels set in little-talked about periods of time. This one is set during the war of 1812 and tells the story of two boys from different worlds whose friendship is tested by war. Although technically a middle grade novel, this one is recommended for teens due to the subject matter of war and loss.
FOR MIDDLE GRADE// The Staircase by Ann Rinaldi
Queen of middle grade historical fiction, Ann Rinaldi does not disappoint with this tale of a Protestant girl living in a convent during a little-talked about time in history. Great as a read-aloud.
FOR LITTLES// Little House Picture Book Treasury
The Little House books are some of my favorites and this rich treasury filled with beautiful illustrations based on stories from the novels is the best way to enjoy them with some of your littlest readers.
