Conquering Quiet Times {Day 2}: Get Up.
Get Up.
The End.
Just kidding. Kind of. Except I’m serious too. Because in order to have a morning quiet time, you’ve gotta get out of bed.
In Maximize Your Mornings, Kat talks about how this was her only goal, starting out. Just. Get. Out. Of. Bed. Cause if we’re honest, at 5:30 in the morning, there’s nowhere else we’d rather be.
But that quiet time, it is worth it. It will change your whole day. So you’ve gotta muster up the willpower, and prayers don’t hurt either, to get your bootie out of bed. Pick a wake-up time that works for you and just do it.
I realize this is not a deep and meaningful point. But it’s practical. And maybe one you struggle with the most, like I do. So here’s what I’ve found to aid in this little endeavor.
Go to bed.
Yup. When 10:00 rolls around, don’t expect to be starting to wash clothes/put dishes away/watch that TV show and still be able to get up early. No sirree.
Let’s be honest with ourselves. We need sleep. It’s a fact of life. And if you’re planning to get up early, you’ve gotta compensate for that missed sleep somewhere. And I don’t know too many of you that have time for a nap. {Remember naps? Weren’t they divine??} So what do you do? Get to bed at a decent time.
So today here’s your task. Look at your schedule and see what is actually feasible. What time can you get up in the morning to secure 30-60 minutes of quiet time with the Lord? When you’ve got that decided, figure out what time that means you need to go to bed. And then set an alarm on your phone. For both things. 🙂
Me? My wake-up time is 5:30. Sometimes I’m up earlier than that to send the hubby off to work, but 5:30 is the time when I’m no longer allowing myself to go back to bed or press the snooze button. That’s my quiet time. 5:30.
So that means I need to be in bed by 10pm. Every night. 9 would be better, but 10 is realistic.
What’s your plan for wake-ups and bedtimes? Will you share below in the comments? I’d love to know who is joining in this week!
