Finding Your Balance // A new series!
Welcome to our brand new Finding Your Balance series!! I am so excited to chat with you this week about our favorite bad word: BALANCE.
Honestly, I used to scoff at the idea of balance. Some perfect plan to get everything done without overwhelm? Impossible.
But I’ve grown to see balance as something else – instead of perfection, harmony.
I heard Sissy Goff say something the other day that resonated deeply with me. She said, “When perfection is the goal, anxiety is always the outcome.”
And I felt that in my bones.
THAT is why balance feels elusive and out of reach – because in our minds we’ve equated it with perfection. And perfection simply isn’t attainable for us in this life.
It’s not gonna happen.
In fact, that striving for unattainable perfection always brings us one thing, and one thing only: ANXIETY.
We can’t ever do enough, be enough, get enough things checked off our to-do list. We don’t have enough of ourselves to give, and everyone seems to want more. We end up anxious, burned out, and anything BUT balanced.
Can you relate? (I sure can.)
So that’s why this week, we’re ditching the anxiety that comes with striving for perfection, and instead, we’re working toward PEACE.
This peaceful approach to balance focuses less on perfection and more on the two main definitions of the word balance:
- (noun) mental and emotional steadiness
- (verb) to bring into harmony or proportion
Steadiness. Harmony. Peace. These things are possible even when perfection is not.
And that’s how we will be approaching Balance this week. With peace at the center. When we talk about finding our balance, we aren’t talking about finding the perfect way of doing things. Instead, we’re talking about finding a real peace that steadies us even when life gets a little chaotic.
Because let’s be honest – life IS chaotic. Schedules get busy. Unexpected interruptions are aplenty. Routines are going to be knocked off course by travel or sickness or distraction. Peaceful circumstances aren’t always (ever?) a guarantee.
But we CAN have peace internally. When we are personally at peace – even amidst the chaos – that peace transitions into our homes and families, too. Remember – we create the culture in our homes!
So this week, we’re going to walk through 4 simple steps you can take to create a little more balance – or peace – in your daily life.
Step 1 // Mastering Your Schedule
Tomorrow, we’re going to talk all about how to take control of your schedule. How to MANAGE that chaos, in a very real way. Tune into tomorrow’s post for tips on getting clear about what your calendar actually holds (and what it can release!).
Step 2 // Automating Your To-Do List
On Wednesday, we are going to tackle that to-do list, giving you a specific way to organize it that will allow you to 1) see everything at once, 2) delegate some tasks away from yourself, and 3) automate the rest, so you don’t have to wonder when it’s all getting done!
Step 3 // Creating Space For Rest
This is the step that most of us skip, which is why we’ll be talking about it in depth on Thursday! We’ll cover all 3 kinds of rest, and share realistic tips on what rest can look in your own life – we don’t all have time for a daily nap anymore, do we?!
Step 4 // Finishing Your Unfinished Projects
Possibly one of the MOST unbalanced parts of our life is our unfinished project list. It hangs over our heads and tells us how behind we are, all the livelong day. Well, no more! On Friday, we’ll round off the week by sharing practical tips and strategies to help you make some serious progress on all those projects you never seem to have time for. Here’s to whittling down that list!
And then on Monday, we’ll share our big announcement – one you will NOT want to miss!!
So welcome, friends, to a new definition of BALANCE – one that focuses on peace rather than perfection. I’ll be praying for you all week long – that these posts will help you find the freedom to slow down in a culture that pushes hustle and busy.
