Be Intentional
As a mom, my life is full of surprises. I have to learn to roll with the punches, cause 9 out of 10 days simply do not go as planned. And that’s ok. This life stage is one that keeps me on my toes!
But if I’m honest, I must admit that I have also used it as an excuse.
“I didn’t get to {insert important responsibility here} today,
because {insert crazy child story here} happened! It’s not my fault!”
Lots of times, that statement is totally true. No, I did not get the laundry done today, because Emily decided it would be a good idea to forgo her naps. Yes, the dishes are still in the sink, because every time I open the dishwasher, she climbs in. Yes, that is a bitemark on my arm. No, I haven’t showered yet.
Just kidding, my kid doesn’t bite. Yet.
But sometimes, the story really should go more like this: No, I did not get the laundry done, because somehow I spent all of Emily’s nap on Facebook. Yes, the dishes are still in the sink, I didn’t get to do my Bible Study this morning because I slept in, so I am cranky and don’t feel like putting them in the dishwasher. No, I haven’t showered yet, can’t you see I’m blogging? Ahem.
Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve had some time to think about life. Family. Work. Health. Writing. All of it. And while there are lots of things on my plate, only a few are of true importance. But those important things get crowded out so easily if I don’t intentionally protect them.
Intention requires discipline. Intention suggests preparation. Intention necessitates a purpose. I must be disciplined to keep my important things important. I must prepare so that they are not crowded out by distractions. I must keep God’s purpose for my life in mind, and make the choice of how I spend my time in light of that purpose.
This is so hard for me. If you have any tips, I’m all ears! You disciplined people are my heroes. {And I just spelled that “hearos”. Oof, it’s time for bed.}
In these last few weeks, I’ve been quiet on this blog, in order to give myself time to focus on the important things. But, as it turns out, God’s made it very clear to me that writing is one of my important things. That He has a plan for it somewhere, and that it is not something I am to abandon.
He has some other opinions about Facebook and the list of shows on my DVR, but we’re still discussing those. 🙂
So, here I write. And I want you to know that I am so honored that you care to read the words I type. I care that you read them. I’m continuing to pray about the purpose of this place, and about writing in general. So there may be less Wordless Wednesdays coming up… there might not be posts every day… and there certainly will not be as many pleas for your votes {although they are always appreciated}. What I know for certain is that this is a place God has called me to, and it must be His message that is shared. I do believe that message can include some mighty good recipes, funny baby stories and awesome giveaways, so be on the lookout. 🙂 Especially tomorrow. Just saying.
Intentional. That’s what I’d like this place to be. Purposeful. Honest. Full of true Hope. Get ready for some more posts along those lines. I hope you’ll join me for the journey. 🙂
