A Life of Rest { Embracing Rest :: Day 5 }
A life of rest.
It sounds lazy, I know. But it’s so very not.
A life of rest is an obedient life. It’s a life lived in honesty, in humility of spirit, in dependence on the Lord.
A life of rest, I think, looks like your life, slowed down.
Your life, simplified.
It’s shedding the non-essentials and making the time for those things that truly are essential. It’s hushing your comparisons and living grateful for what’s right in front of you. It’s majoring on the majors, so to speak.
It’s also admitting when you need help. It’s understanding yourself well enough to see out that which you need. It’s constant communication with the One who knows every single one of those needs, even before you do.
A life of rest, well, I think that’s the life we all want. Where our family gets the best of us and we get the best of God. Where we are filled and free to love without reservation.
It won’t be as easy as it sounds, no. Keeping your focus and shedding the rest will be painful and difficult. Going the opposite way of the fast-running crowd, well that will create some dissension.
But the reward for following hard after the life God has for you?
Worth it. 100%. No looking back, no regrets.
I hope you enjoyed this series on embracing rest this week. Writing out these truths have helped me to absorb them as well, and I sure needed that!
I’d love to hear one thing that stood out to you in this series – what are you taking away from it all?
